Conventional Contact Lenses
Soft or rigid gas-permeable lenses are used for
one year.
Daily Wear Schedule
Contact lenses are worn only during the day or
waking hours. They are removed before bedtime. This is the best and
safest wearing schedule.
Disposable Contact Lenses
Only available in soft contacts, these lenses are thrown away after
1 day, 1 week, 2 weeks, or 1 month of wear or use.
Extended Wear
Contact lenses are worn during the day and over-night,
usually one to several days without removal of the contact lenses. More
follow-up visits are required to ensure good corneal health.
Monovision
A treatment technique often prescribed for people
age 40 and over who are affected by presbyopia, a part of the natural
aging process when the eye's crystalline lens loses its ability to bring
close objects into clear focus. Monovision means wearing a contact lens
for near vision on one eye and a lens for distance vision on the other
eye.
Planned-Replacement Contact Lenses
Soft contacts are replaced every 3 or 6 months.
Rigid Gas-Permeable Contact
Lenses
These lenses are made of a harder plastic material
than the soft contact lenses. They are available for people with or
without astigmatism and those who need bifocals.
Soft Contact Lenses
These lenses are made of very soft plastic material. It is available
for people with or without astigmatism, those who need bifocals, and
people who want to change eye colors.
